  Overview:

Local and location services are being transformed dramatically by new mobile, digital and social media services. The shift is rapidly changing the way we communicate and connect with others locally and with other local businesses.

The commercial opportunities being created are significant and will affect most businesses. Therefore this mashup* event will explore the strategic and commercial tactics that need to be understood and implemented to enable you and your organisation to make the most from the arising opportunities.

Locial will explore how local directories, local deals & offers, local news, local classifieds, local media, TV & radio and local advertising are changing. What role will social media play to local and location services now and in the future? Will Facebook dominate local?  What role will Twitter play?  How important are location enabled apps? Learnings and Insights from the Screenagers

03/11/2011 10:30
03/11/2011 13:30

Irrespective of what we call them the Screenagers, Generation Y, millennials, digital natives or the Facebook generation; we all agree that they are driving new digital services.   Often, in a discussion of next generation services and privacy their voice is ignored. Therefore, we ask: Should we teach the Screenagers or should we learn from them?

In this emerging multi-screen world who controls who?

15/09/2011 18:00
15/09/2011 21:30

Date: 15th Sept 2011

Venue InnovationWarehouse  at Smithfields: London

Time: 18.00 - 21.30 (staring about 18.45)

Tickets: £35+VAT

Now that we have (probably!) arrived in a multi-screen world  with TV, Mobile, Tablet, PC, notebook and screens in the home, car, elevator and plane there are new issues we face:

  • Who has our attention and for how long?
  • What screen is prime and what is the slave?
  • Are all screens just companions?
  • Who wants control you and you experience?
  • Should control be from your device or in the cloud?

This mashup* event will focus on who wants to control you, where they can exercise control from and what does the business model look like?

Speakers:

Anthony Rose: Co-Founder and CTO, tBone

Anthony Rose: Anthony RoseAnthony Rose: Anthony RoseI’m a technologist with a love and knack for creating disruptive mass-market consumer products in the music and video spaces.

I headed up BBC iPlayer from 2007 to 2010, taking it from pre-launch to major success story. But consumers want all their media in one place, and so in May 2010 it was time for a natural progression to YouView to create an open next-gen connected TV platform with aggregated content from lots of providers.

Before the BBC I was at Altnet and Kazaa, creating a digital music store and download application. And before that I was at Brilliant Digital, building a real-time 3D engine and tools for creating interactive branching-plot movies. Ironically it seems we were about 15 years too early, with the new generation of connected TVs leading to a rebirth of this medium.

Before getting into 3D and software, I was into electronics design. I’m pretty sure I was the only kid on the block with a conveyor belt surface mount reflow soldering machine and robot pick ‘n place circuit assembly machine in my study…

I’m now working on my new venture, tBone TV, currently in stealth mode!

Tom has an MA in Physics from Oxford University.

David Bloom, Commercial Director, IP Vision (UK) Ltd.

David Bloom: David BloomDavid Bloom: David BloomDavid Bloom co-founded IP Vision in March 2008. He played a key role in raising start-up investment for the launch of the Uk’s first ‘over the top’ IPTV service. As Commercial Director, Bloom is responsible for overseeing IP Vision’s commercial matters, including strategic agreements, as well as business development.  Major achievements at IP Vision include securing content and distribution agreements with major distributors and content owners including BSkyB, Betfair and Tesco.

From 2004 until 2008, Bloom worked with interactive TV pioneer Yoomedia, and following its merger, Mirada TV. He joined as Marketing Executive, focusing on developing the company’s consumer brands, including applications developed by Yoomedia that featured on Sky’s interactive platform and on cable. Bloom was soon promoted to the position of Commercial Manager, where he spearheaded key relationships with Sky, Freeview and UK cable providers Telewest and NTL. Additionally, he managed partnerships with  providers of outsourced applications. In his last role at Yoomedia,  he headed up the newly formed gambling and gaming business unit,

Of particular interest to Bloom are: cutting-edge new media innovation; improving the TV experience for consumers; and driving disruptive change.
